I am new to this forum & I would like to get to know some people. :happydance: So, with that being said I see many usernames that I try guessing how someone came up with it and how it is pronounced. It is a little insight into us. :biggrinn:. So, how did you come up with your username? How is it pronounced? Wouldn't mind knowing your real name as well. :)
My username is Shawnbear. It is a nickname given to me by my husband while we were dating. (He is Jeremy and I call him Jerr Bear.) It is a play on my name which is La'Shawn, I love panda bears and it was a cutesy name. Pretty easy to pronounce. It is Shawn and Bear. So that is a little insight into me.

Oooh, I am keeping my eyes on this thread! :-)
There's nothing special about my name, sorry :giggle:.
monalisasmiles
28-01-2010, 09:45 AM
I have been monalisasmiles for ever! It was my nickname on ICQ ages ago. It's not hard to pronounce :) My real name is Mariska, a pretty common Dutch name. I would love to see everybodies real name in their siggie's if it's not obvious in their nickname, LOL. It's sometimes so strange to resond to nicknames, hahaha. So I will be watching this thread too!
inklover13
28-01-2010, 10:11 AM
I am known as inklover13 in the digi-world. I chose it because I have and love ink (as in tattoos)! The 13 is because it's my favorite number, and I was born on the 13th.:biggrinn:
My given name is Leilani (pronounced Lay-la-knee)
milo82
28-01-2010, 10:13 AM
ok, about my nickname... When my guy and I are were first dating, he always spend the weekend's with me and my parents. On Friday night we always watched a movie...before we did we went to this sweet shoppe for some candy. The name of the sweets shoppe was Milo and he started calling me milo... 82 is the year I was born :)
But some call me Peetsj, Dirkje (after my GM) and lots more names... The kids at daycare also have the cutest things and the way they pronounce them :)
Petra + pronounced as Pee-(hard E) -tra. I had this online chat (with voices) and they called me petra with a soft E...it sounded so awful! LOL
libbysmommy
28-01-2010, 11:09 AM
I became active on my first digi scrap forum just after having my first DD back in 2006. Her name is Hunter Elizabeth, but I gave her the nickname of Libby (a nickname of her middle name). And though, we mostly call her by her first name - I've kept libbysmommy as my user name on any of the scrap forums (just a couple) that I've become a part of. My name is Heather and made sure to include that in my signature.
It's fun to read how others came about choosing their user names. Great thread.
doodelle
28-01-2010, 11:51 AM
I'm loving everyone's stories! Mine is just simple math. My real name is Rachelle and I love to doodle. So Doodle + Rachelle = Doodelle. My guy calls me Chellie but it sounds way too cheesy for a username.

I love the name Mariska, I think it sounds so elegant :)
I'm a writer by trade and looooong ago I named my muse/mojo/house of inspiration Hobbes, after the Calvin & Hobbes character, and also because my ex-boyfriend (now hubs, lol) gave me a stuffed tiger long before we started going out. My username says that I'm married to my muse, lol. He's quite a character and I've often had stupid arguments with him when he doesn't "behave" and give me scrapping inspiration, lol :)
I love learning about everyone's name! Great idea :D

28-01-2010, 02:42 PM
I love reading these, very interesting and you guys have such pretty names.
My name is boring...TrishB....nickname & first letter of last name.
Given name is Patricia, I go by Trish and my parents call me Tricia..blech! I used to be Beau0419, which is the nick name my sweetie gave me 8 yrs ago and 0419 is our anniversary. But I rarely use that anymore.
this is nice...
nothing special for my name. my name is ingrid. long-time friends usually call me grid and new ones call me ing; and eventually the long-time friends started calling me ing. this is the name i'm also using in the web other than "mama ing". my hubby's name is kim and it just sounds cute with ing than with grid... kim... ing... ing... kim... :loudlaff: (i know, i'm not making sense) :loudlaff:

I love these threads. And I love the name Leilani !! I just had a baby girl 2 weeks ago and that name would have been on my "list" had I heard it before!! :) (Her name is Ellyce, by the way) :)
My username is a combo of things, and just something I came up with years ago that has stuck (because I wouldnt remember anything else if I changed it now LOL) The k is for "keeper" which was my position in soccer when I played 'back in the day', the 23 is my fave number, and the m is for my name, Melissa. Exciting, eh? (oh ya, I am from Canada LOL)

I'm Amanda.. and my user name.. well.. I've had a love/hate with it. Just tried to pick something unique at the time. Used the first letters of my kids names, JAxson, KArter, JERsey. "Jakajer". Meh.. it's stuck with me so I've learned to like it. Pronounce it however you like. :giggle:

When I first started in the digging community that is what I did, took the first 2 letters of my 4 boys & created my user name MIJAHUKE ( Michael, Jarret, Hunter Keeghan)....but after 2 years I decided that it was crazy to be know has mijahawkee ( how I always pronouced it) its like your quickly saying "midgit hockey"!

28-01-2010, 10:38 PM
This is a fun thread! Great way to get to know each other a little bit better.... My name IRL is Barbara but my user name {everywhere} is Sokee which is my dog's name. But also her nickname. LOL.
Her real name is Sokeri which is the Finnish word for Sugar. But she is always called Sokee. When I started visiting online sites, and before I joined, I realized I never saw anyone by the user name of Sokee so............ :greenstars:

ooooh, I am loving this thread! I always like learning more about people.
My user name is 'jaimechoi' because that's the nickname my hubby calls me. jk. LOL. :hapydancsmil: It's my username because I'm boring and couldn't come up with anything more exciting. hahaha. The only thing about my name is that it is spelled a little differently: j-a-I-m-e, instead of the more common jamie. People often misspell my name, but I've gotten used to it so it doesn't bother me. The only other thing is that I often get mistaken for a male because j-a-i-m-e is 'James' in Spanish. Gotten used to that too. :biggrin8:

Yes, same here in the Philippines. We pronounce it as "hai-me" (Jaime) :) But you're so pretty in your avatar, so no one here will ever mistake you for a male! :glis:
You guys will never guess what my username is! :loudlaff:
I'm actually having a hard time figuring it out Bren:giggle:
ninigoesdigi
29-01-2010, 01:57 AM
I actually tried to think of a cool blog name when I decided to have a blog, but I'm not sure I achieve that:nea:. A French thinking in English never ends up with a great thing :25r30wi:
My nickname is Nini because my real name Virginie is way to difficult to pronounce here in Japan and it's simply butchered with the Japanese accent so I gave up on it a long time ago :25r30wi:
And because I was so addicted to digiscrap when I discovered it last year June or so, I thought I'd say "Nini goes crazy for digi" or something like that but it just ended up being ninigoesdigi. Not sure I'm making any sense. Anyway, I still managed to find a name not used anywhere else so it's quite nice :944509:
I'm a writer by trade and looooong ago I named my muse/mojo/house of inspiration Hobbes, after the Calvin & Hobbes character, and also because my ex-boyfriend (now hubs, lol) gave me a stuffed tiger long before we started going out. MrsHobbes, I love Calvin and Hobbes too !! :happy107:
I love everyone's names - user names and real names too!
On most sites I'm Hybridgal because it took a while for me to make the switch from paper to digi. Lately, though, I've just been registering under my nickname because it seems so much easier to mentally call people by their "real" names, especially since we spend so much time with each other through our online communities.
So... I'm M'Lee, pronounced Muh-Lee. It's a nickname I was given it in college and it combines yet another nickname with my middle name. My real name doesn't fit me at all and no one ever seems to call me by it except my mother.
Marussia
29-01-2010, 03:51 AM
Was so interesting to read all the stories!
My name is Marina....when I was thinking of choosing a username for Internet, I made up this - Marussia - Ma - first letters of my name and Russia, where I was born and lived for 26 years... also Marussia resembles some other Russian name - Marusya . So here it's Marussia from Russia but living in Japan LOL

This is such a cool thread!! My username is...well...my name. :25r30wi: I'm boring...what can I say?? :D
I can tell you the story behind my real name...Phoebe was my great-grandmother's name (on my mother's side) and Jo is after the character from "Little Women," Josephine March...it was my mom's favorite book and her fave character was Jo. :glis:

my real name is Gwenaelle but I'd rather go for Gwen
my user name comes from a nickname I got when I was 16
it refers to Winnie the Pooh which is not a reallt brave character :25r30wi: it's an American friend who called me this way because I was afraid to go on his bike :newemoticon_lmao:
it's so interesting to read about all your names!
There is nothing special to say about mine...it simply is my nickname in real life ;) My real name is Julia...

my username is my poor, late-night attempt at phonetically spelling a nickname. It's sounds like this
sair-ska-dare
in my little brain. :flirty2:but somehow i managed to make reference to a tree. oh well! at least it's always available when i register somewhere new he he!!:glis:

We should get along poohtiful as Pooh is one of my favorite little creatures {even though he is afraid of his own shadow} and my daughter's name is Emma Gwen which I would go back and forth on ifI should name her Gwendolyn for her first name...... but Emma won out so she became Emma Gwen 19 yrs ago.

Reading this is so much fun! I love it!!
Well, Pom is the name everybody calls me in real life eventhough it's not my real name!:hapydancsmil: It means chubby in Thai and my parents thought it's cute so the name stuck. I actually really like it as a username because it's short and easy to pronounce, easy to type too! :biggrinn:
More tidbits about names. :winking0071: My real name is Haruthai which means Heart in Thai, so my hubby calls me Heartbeat. While our last name is Knight, so he became my Knightmare. Suits him really well. :newemoticon_lmao:

I really enjoy these kind of threads. It is fun to get to know a little more about people.
My ID is simply my little one's names. Kale (who is five) and Kiara (2). I don't know what I am going to do once the new little one is born. I swear I am not going to change it again but who knows. My original nickname when I started digi in 2006 was kalesmom4ever. I changed it when Kiara was born in 2008. Poor new baby might just have to feel left out or the boards I frequent might kick me out for changing my name again. lol

What a fun thread! I've loved reading about everyone's names!
My screenname is a kind of homage to my DH who is in the military. His career field wears a scarlet beret and "sierra" is phonetic alpha entry for the letter "S", which is the first letter in my name, Sara. :)
gonewiththewind
30-01-2010, 02:33 AM
I love this thread!
How fun!
My user name comes from my love of Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I almost called myself ScarlettWannabe ('cause I'd love to be Scarlett O'Hara), but I was afraid people would think that Scarlett is my real name, so I just chose gonewiththewind.
My real name is Cheryl, which means darling . . . and is also the feminine form of Charles. And Charles just so happens to be my dad, so I was named after my dad in a roundabout way.
:laugh-1-1:

I've always been curious about some people's usernames, so this is fun...
I used to go by bre11414 (my name is breanne, bre for short. 11 was my volleyball # in HS, 4 was my volleyball # in college and 14 just kinda flowed!) lol..actually the real reason behind the numbers is embarassing (had to do with BOYS back in the day!), and I refuse to tell the real reason, but really those other reasons are true too! lol...ANYWAY....
I changed to BTA Designs, because that is what my "business" name is, so I wanted more consistency with my scrapbooking/designing/photography. T is for my maiden name (thompson) and a is for my married name (aullman).
There ya go! :D

I have a ridiculously long name and my third given name is Noelle, which is a feminine version of my uncle's name Noel. Same pronunciation, but growing up til now some can pronounce it "no-EL-lee"

Great stories! Nothing really cool about mine, it's from my previous domain name scrapwithnikki.com - It was originally a website to teach ppl about scrapbooking. Then it became my business name/website when I started designing. I just recently closed it completely and now it's all on our family blog.

What a fun Thread!
Steffi is my real Name. And the Name in the brackets [two cute wishes] that are my two little girls. "Wishes" is our family name - here in Germany you spell that W-Ü-N-S-C-H-E, which has the same meaning as in English WISHES.
Aagje
30-01-2010, 09:46 AM
This is fun!! My nickname is my real name! Oh yeah, and you English speaking girls, try to pronounce this AAGJE!!!
I have been named after my grandmother who passed away when my father was three years old. Her name was Agatha and Aagje is short for Agatha. When I am in France with my DHs family they all call my Agatha because Aagje is too difficult for them. In dutch we say Curious Aagje (nieuwsgierig Aagje) to people who are curious...and I am!

I love this thread so many cute reasons... fellow Jo (little women) fan and HUGE Calvin and Hobbes fan too (my other half wanted to call our daughter Calvin if she was a boy she does have a Hobbes teddy too).
My username here is Sophie... kinda speaks for itself. Most places it is Yossarian... he is one of my favourite characters in any book he's the central character in Catch 22 and completely insane, I like that LOL.
My designer name Polly&Rufus is named after my cat Polly and Ava's toy dog Rufus(can't get a real one in our tiny apartment) the logo used to be a cat and a dog now it makes no sense LOL.

30-01-2010, 03:49 PM
LOL! I like this thread. When I first started posting on message boards/forums I used my real name and someone scolded me and told me that was 'unsafe'. I chose to use my nickname 'RACH' short for Rachel, and the 'n' is a shortened 'and'. Maddie is my daughter. So pronounced 'rach-en-maddie' to included my slurred inner-city accent that I try desperately to get rid of since I am a teacher and should sound educated! :)

Great to read these stories! My real name is Bianca, and my designer name is Project B Designs. A friend of mine came up with it when she was creating a new logo for me, and I'm happy with it. Although I would love to have a 'cool real name', so I could use it as a designer name. But Oldenbeuving isn't a business-like name, right?

shiazee
31-01-2010, 11:51 PM
Back in the early 90's when AOL instant messaging was super popular, I used the screen name LadiJuli (my name is Julianne and I try to be a lady :wink2:). I eventually needed an alternate name because I wanted to hide from certain people on AIM. I chose shiazee, which is "she" in my family's secret made-up language (like Pig Latin, but different). I also used the secret language words for "me" (maizee) and "mom" (miazom). I wanted to use my real name (Julianne) in the silly language, but that would have been way too long -- Jiazuliazeeiazanne. Shiazee has stuck with me since then, and it has the added benefit of always being available.

Vesi is my real name as call me all - friends, kinsmans and etc.. (but this is short of my full name Veska).
In English Vesi must be written "Vessy" :)
P.S. When I was registering in DST was thinking to be with nickname "Vanessa", because a long time ago when I was studying English in English course teachers called us with English names and my was Vanessa, I love this name. But in DST already was some Vanessas and I decide to be with my real name :)
Crystalbella77, when I see your nickname allays am thinking about Italy (loooooove this country), may be because am making some analogue with bella in Crystalbella :)

Gummy is the nickname DH and I gave our daughter. Before cutting any teeth she loved to show off her smile... her toothless gummy smile. The nickname stuck and thus when looking for a user name it was an easy choice... gummysmom.

Vesi is my real name as call me all - friends, kinsmans and etc.. (but this is short of my full name Veska).
:)
I think I must have an affinity for "s-ka" names because Veska is sounding so pretty to me! Just like Mariska's :jump2:

LOVED reading this thread! and laughed at most of the explanations lol!
mine was actually a spur of the moment decision kinda thing :biggrinn: one time i joined an on-the-spot challenge (paper scrapbooking) and in one of the competition level was to make a name tag with your name and a "scrappy nickname". i forgot to put the scrappy nickname, i would have been disqualified if my bff didn't point it out.. so in haste, i just doodled "scrappydonna" lol! and hmm i won first place lmao! :D so eversince then that's what i used whenever i need to register to forums and galleries (as paper scrapbooker) and stuck with me through the digital scrapbooking world.. though sometimes it's taken (rarely now), i also go with scrappy_donna (yeah very original, lmao!)
oh and my real name is donnaBELLE (that is why my "pets" in facebook are named bella/bellalilu/bellalalu and kikay lily - the last one i just love the name lily and it's out of the topic now) lmao!!
