I have used a lot of effects (on many layers in a LO), but when I merge them together I loose some of the effects. Can somebody help me to solve this problem? I have used Inner Shadow, Inner Glow, Bevel and Emboss, Color Overlay, Gradient Overlay and Satin.

The best way I've found to do this is to duplicate the layer to a new document, merge all (so, with the white background), and then reimport it into the original document. Another thing you can do is to create layers with the styles, and then merge one at a time with the original layer (sometimes you have to fiddle with the order of the merges, though).

I've also noticed that sometimes a Merge Layers on multiple layers looses effects, but mostly multiple Merge Downs will keep the effects. I mostly start from the bottom up.
Same with several adjustment layers on a photo or so.

Have you tried putting one style on at a time, creating layers, merging down, then the next style, etc? At least you could determine which style isn't working...

I have tried so many ways now, Heather. I know itīs have to be bevel and emboss but I canīt figure out how to do it!!:banghead:
Iīm glad, Iīm not the only one having these issues to struggle with.:biggrin8::giggle::glis:
do you need to merge, Ulla-May? if the size of the file is not an issue, you can just group those effects

What about converting the layer with the styles to a smart object ? And then merge all the layers.. I notice that merge down and merge layers also make different results.. But for me what works better is the first option i gave.. Try it and tell me if it work.. Kisses Deca

Ulla-May, just FYI for future use, there's http://yousendit.com/ that's pretty good for sending large files. I'm not sure what the limits are, but I've used it in the past with great results. I think Heddy uses it too sometimes. :flower2:

Glad your problem's solved, Ulla-May. But what I wonder about, why did you have to merge the layers? I never merge layers before saving. I just do file > save as > jpeg...and it always goes well. Maybe another tip for you?

Erica: I tried to do it that way also, without merging first, but I lost some of the effects.
Hey I want to know Heather.. What did you do? Share please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:glis:

Well, I messed around trying to find out which layer was causing the problem--it was mostly the bevel and emboss. What she had was several layers, each of which with a bunch of effects, and then another layer clipped to each one. I put each clipped pair into a separate folder, then made a smart object of *that*, then merged the smart objects, and finally added another top layer she had of levels adjustment, and merged that with the rest of the merges. Clear as mud, no doubt! :giggle:

Since I have had this problem also, it is interesting to hear a solution that might work. This is just one of the wonderful ways our wonderful and most loved photoshop can torture us. LOL.
Today, I encountered something similar..or at least I think so. Apparently, a lot of people were having the same problem - some effects (especially) Bevel and Emboss disappeared when merged or rasterized or converted into a smart object (my case).
I kept looking and looking and then I just noted in one of forums, someone said: "you have to view the file (=our Photoshop layout) in real size to see the effect right". So I switched to View Actual Pixels and did the conversion again. NOTHING changed, the effect was still there!
So I'm wondering if there actually is no disappearing but that's "just" an annoying fact of how Photoshop displays altered pixels.
I'm curious if you all, who had similar problems, still see them when viewed "uncompressed". I know there is no actual compression, only that Photoshop needs to "squeeze" for example 10 actual pixels and display them as one (depending on the resolution of your monitor).
try View -> Actual Pixels

Hrm--but when you're saving for web, you *are* seeing it @ 100%. Nonetheless, interesting discovery!
