I was born in the 80's (1983).
I remember the totally wrong clothes that my parents used to let us wear and the boyish hairstyle I had.
I am 2 1/2 years older than my sister and everyone thought we were twins because we were wearing the same clothes all the time + we had the same hairstyles :(
The Bangles, Madonna, Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston. I loved the 80's!
I used to stand in front of the tv singing along to Bon Jovi songs when I was only 1 year old and I used to sing Feeee the woooooood (feed the world - band aid). LOL

Although I was born in 1983, I have got a pretty good memory of the 80's :)

I dont think the era matters...our parents ALWAYS put us in the wrong kind of clothes. I dont remember much of the 80's. Oh I was an adult but I was so busy raising 4 boys, babysitting my 2 neices, and working part time to watch TV or even listen to the radio. I do know that Sesame Street was still on Channel 13, Barney the big purple dinosaur was popular, transformers, go cats, and cabbage patch kids. I was a 70s child and remember that well!

I was born in '83 too, and the thing i remember most about the 80's are LA Gear shoes that light up, and those pants with the ghekos on them. LOL!

OMGosh Kat! :giggle: you look like Kim Wilde!

I LOVE the eighties, it was my youth as I was 13 in 1980. I loved the music of Spandau Ballet, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Wham!, Kool & the Gang, A-ha, ABBA, Imagination, Tears for Fears, Simple Minds, James Ingram, Jeffrey Osborne, Chaka Khan and so on! I was totally in love with Richard Gere since I saw him in Yanks and An officer and a gentleman. And there was the Flying Doctors, Love boat, Dallas, Dynasty on tv. I bought a walkman in which you could play cassette tapes, REALLY cool :25r30wi: and of course I had a row of buttons on my jacket and canvas bag.

BTW I organized an 80's party for my colleagues a few years ago, all dressed up in 80's style :giggle: and it was the greatest party we've ever had!

OMG, I just remembered--when I was packing up my condo I found my old Walkman! And IT STILL WORKS, lol!!! I still have a few cassette tapes of fave late 80s, early 90s bands.

Oh man! Who can forget making mixed tapes of songs? Or taping songs straight from the radio with some cheesy DJ talking over the intro or ending of the song?? :rofl2:

PhoebeJo
18-04-2010, 08:25 AM
Mix tapes from your boyfriend were the best gifts ever!!
Oh my goodness...yes! I remember sitting in front of my radio with my tape player ready to go trying to catch all my favorite songs and the mouthy dj's ruining the intro! Grrr!! :giggle:

You know what I find disturbing.....that the 80s look is fashionable again......at least here in The Netherlands. Freaking me out! I was born in '74 so I can remember the 80s but I want to block those years out of my mind. YAY for the 90s :)

I don't remember too much of the 80's, being born in 79', but I do love all 80's music and the movies. On the other hand my old man was born in 72' and was big into the Hollywood music scene. I think I may have some old photos of him playing a gig at the Whisky a Go-Go, and he's in spandex pants with laces up the side, and long, puffy hair. :rofl2: I think if we do a Then and Now Challenge anytime soon, I will have to scrap one of those photos.:giggle:

OK Leilani ... I just need to check something here ... the phrase "my old man" to me means "dad" ... with me so far?

OK, so did you mean your dad or your OH (other half)???

I need to know because ... I was born in 1971 and I sure as heck don't wanna be referred to as "old Sue"!!!!!!!!

:gaah: :reaction: :run2:

:giggle: Yeah, I mean my other half, EJ. He calls me is old lady, to be funny cause I am 7 years younger than him, (when we met I was a few months shy of my 18th birthday). So I got into the habit of calling him my old man. It's not cause I think he is old, it's just he's older than me.

What about Rubik's cube?!? I was totally addicted to that thing in third grade.
It was the time to drink orange juice with Pisang Ambon or Blue Curacao, don't know if that was typical Dutch.
And of course my friend and I tried to tape our favourite songs from the radio and even tried to make a professional mix, which was pretty impossible with only two cassette recorders :giggle:

Yep, he sure did. When he played in the 80's, he was the singer in a band called Reckless Gypsies. And during the past 12+ years that we have been together, he has played there, along with a few other Hollywood hangouts, as the drummer in three other bands.
