Hi all
I'm wondering if the answer to my question is simple, and if someone can answer it.
I am working with a template, on the template is ricrac ribbon (it's also textured), and I want to clip paper to it and give the paper the texture of the ricrac... am I dreaming the impossible?

I'm probably going to go ahead with just the paper texture instead, but this might be useful {to me} in the future.

Thanks!! :flower2:

Me thinks...and I'm sure Heather can definitely give you the correct answer...if you change the blending mode to multiply it will give you the underlying texture...me thinks. :)

If that doesn't work, just mess around with all the blending modes and you should find the right one!

Jen, that was quick ! I was thinking the same thing. Play around with the blending modes of the paper and maybe the opacity.
I would also play around with a b&w setting on the ric rac.

hmm, ok, I did some blending, then added another layer, and it sorta worked... I am very new at PS (I use another type of program, but like what PS can do so I'm trying to learn)... I'll keep trying. Thanks Jen and Katja...

OK, here's what I do.

To get a more realistic result:

Copy the ricrac.
Drag your paper in between the 2 layers.
Clip the paper on to the ricrac (bottom one) ctrl+alt+G
Choose "soft overlay" or "overlay" as blending mode for the paper.
And do the same with the ricrac (top layer)

That should do the trick ;)

You can play around with the blending modes.
I sometimes use "color burn" as well, but I lower the opacity to about 20 or 30%.

a second copy of an object set as Overlay? such a neat trick!!! :agree:

I usually go to Blending Options (right-click on the object at the Layer Palette in CS) then tick Color Overlay, choose color there and set the mode to Overlay or Color or whatever I like. Sometimes, the final color of the object is quite different, depending on the tonal/color range of the original, so I have to play with it. My personal trick: sometimes I add Bevel/Emboss to play with the texture.

I do the same thing, but first I desaturate the 2nd copy which is above, so you're overlaying with a grayscale (ctrl+u to unsaturate). Multiply can sometimes produce better results if you're trying to maintain the same color, or add a separate hue/saturation adjustment layer over the whole shebang... (copy the layers to a group, then merge them, then apply the adjustment level).

Oh yes, that's what I do as well if the object (in this case the ricrac) isn't grayscale yet! :glis:
