I am wondering what program you can use to convert a psd file to a png? I use Storybook by Creative Memories and would love to be able to use some of the templates that are put out by Mscrap but I can't unless it is in png format. Also when it converts does it come out in one layer or all the seperate layers or all the seperate layers but in one page? I am verily new to this digital scrapbooking.

You can get my last two blog freebies (see link in signature) to see what a template looks like in .png format--it's basically a 12x12" transparent file with each element on it, in the proper position, then you either replace it with an element of your choice, or clip a paper to it. Normally you would use something like Photoshop Elements or Photoshop CS to convert the .psd to .png's; or you can use any program that will read .tiff layers, as well. Elements is really cheap, though--a great beginner's program.

Can you use a .tif file instead of a .psd?
Oh i have good news for you, sweetie! I have some templates in the store right now and they are already converted to SBC .page formats! It will now be easier for you to use it :)

:wink3: I thought I might be able to clear up some of the questions that designers and customers have about png files. Unless the designer will save each layer of their templates in a separate png layer, you (the SBC user that posted a question above) and I and all of the other SBC users (and the other 4 or 5 program' users) are slap out of luck. I can't use all of those great templates that are being given away for free in the freebie section or the newsletter either. I would love to use them and all of the other psd template files I have collected over 3 yrs for the day that God opens them all for me and makes them into png files... lolololoolool :25r30wi: Most designers will tell you that it's easy to do but too time consuming to make the switch or it's a waste of their time. A designer from Scrap MAtters used to sell an action that turned templates into png files automatically for $6, but I don't know where she went to. No, a tif file doesn't work either.. you can see the tif file template ,but it is not clickable. We need a .page/.sbcpg file for it to be clickable. Only a person using the SBC products can make .page/ .sbcpg files. The psd/tif designers have no idea what kind of market potential making products for png only users have. I have personally gone to bunches of stores and talked to countless designers and tried to ask them to make png products and to make their templates in png layers. Some of them listened and their businesses have grown , because of it. I won't list their names, but it is true. I started this mission 3 years ago, when I had just decided to try digi scrapbooking with the urging of the crafting company I worked for . I quickly realized what kind of products we needed , so that we could do some of the basics things that pse/ps could do, but I had the door slammed in my face when I tried to talk to the pse/ps using designers. I think we (png users) are still often treated as nusiance customers, because we are constantly asking can you make your template or mask in png files. Designers..we aren't problem children, :flower-1: we are starving for products and we represent a huge potential for profit for those that will listen. Now, before anyone of the pse/ps users say "duh ..why don't you just buy and use pse/ps products instead of complaining about the psd files, :yapyapyapf: let me say this, believe it or not there are real and well founded reasons someone may choose the inconvenience of a png/.page file program (oh and there are 5 or 6 big names companies that are all png users and some of them like SBC can use the .page file also) over the :worship: almighty PSE/PS program. For instance, I don't have time to go to school ( :biggrin8: ...lol) to learn how to use my scrapbooking program. Because of my health issues, I can only sit at the pc for about 3 hours a day (I have to space that throughout of the day and night) and only on good days were my pain level is controllable. I don't want to spend all of my playtime, reading through tutorials. That's not fun to me. Also, I knew I didn't have the time to design either, so a layout/scrapbooking program was just fine for me. I made my first page within 15 minutes of opening the program, without reading any instructions or having any training. Most pse/ps users couldn't say that . :winking0071: I hope this cleared up a few things about pngs. Hey I made a rhyme.. tee hee
Jennsfam: If you pm me I will tell you which designers offer png and .page templates.
I started (recently) to make my freebie templates with PNGs included, so I'm hoping I won't loose your favor? :biggrin8:

A good number of our designers make their templates as PNG, maybe they could come here and let you know that their templates are available as such.
I can't remember which off the top of my head (and I don't keep template PNG in my folders)...
I'll see if I can get some of them to come let you know here :biggrin8:

For my part - as said before - I use 'The Gimp' (free) ; it allows to use .psd files (but not tif). But many times, I prefer working with .png templates. It's more simply, less files to deal with (easier for my old PC), I just have to cut, ajust and place my photos. So I really support the designers who include .png files in their products ;)

I use PSP, and I am lucky cause I can open up .psd files in PSP, but I did not know that for a long time, and just wasn't able to use the templates. I have to say that I now only really use the .psd files cause all I have to do is shadow which I prefer to do myself anyways cause the shadow style does not translate so it is dropped out of the .psd file in PSP. But because I didn't know about opening .psd files in PSP for many years of scrapping I wasn't able to use templates either, and I would agree there is a huge market out there for png users. I have collected quite a few templates that have both files here and there so it is nice to have the option :D I also have acquired Photoshop, so I can use that if I really want to...but I prefer PSP, I have more control and I am a control freak :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:
I think I remember you having issues with templates before, Christine (maybe I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time!!:giggle: glad that solved!!!:biggrin8:
