probably because your pupils are closer together when you read or do beading than when you look at a screen... that can make a difference (at least with multifocals/progressive lenses, it does). I thought I could get away with those cheapie reading glasses, and did for a while, but when I got an eye exam, one of my eyes is slightly weaker than the other, and those cheap glasses don't account for that and you might give yourself headaches..... literally!
I agree, go see an optometrist!
