Oh hun that is so horrible. A completely ruined holiday and all this worry and money and so on. Poor you. I am so thrilled that they aren't charging labour. That is really good of them.
Do you have travel insurance that may cover this? I am sure you've thought of that but hey, just offering another angle.
I love the idea of Daniel's family driving it back to your place - that sounds like a great idea. If they are retired they may do this for you.
I offer some other advice too. I used to have a Renault Scenic RX4 which sadly died in May
. There were only 90 iof them sold in the whole of Australia so quite a rare car!! And a good car too I might add. Anyway, 5 years old and when it rained heavy one of the spark plugs filled with water and it wouldn't run properly so needed to be blown out! 7 years and the driver's window stopped winding down (electric). 8 years and the passenger side rear window did the same.
The spark plug filled with water baffled everyone. I had new spark plugs, new engine cover thing and all sorts. No one could understand and no one had ever heard of it. So many $$$ later and no one knowing what was wrong, my dad came over from UK and put silicone sealer around the windscreen and voila! No more wet spark plugs. (he also drilled a hole in the doors and stuck a screw in so the windowns wouldn't fall down!)
Then I Googled about the car more to see how old they go to. I couldn't believe it but many people had commented on the electric windows failing AND the leaky windscreen AND had mentioned silicone sealant!! If I'd had Googled that years ago then my spark plugs would be dry all this time!
So hun, maybe you should Google the problem and you may find it will come up. There must be a solution. I tell you, I am sending both my boys to a mechanics course when they are old enough because it's one of the best skills (and electrics and computers.........!!) I wish I had done a course too.
Well try to enjoy the last days of your holiday. It's hard but you will regret it when you get back.
Big hugs hun.
