Boerenkool met Worst (Netherlands) - Kale Mash with Smoked Sausage

I love me a plate of boerenkool met worst!

It's a very popular winter dish in the Netherlands. Basically all you have to do is boil an even amount of potatoes and kale in a big pot. Boil it for 20-30 minutes and then mash it all together as if you're making mashed potatoes.
What's delicious too is fry some bacon and crumble it into the dish once it's done!
I like a table spoon of white vinegar on mine but you can do gravy or whatever floats your boat. The sausage you can substitute with bratwurst, hot dogs or whatever since wwe don't have Unox sausages in the USA either

Yeah and it's easy, quick and healthy as it has LOTS of vitamin C and iron!

That definitely looks yummy! I've never used kale before...but it's now on my list right after Joyce's Indonesian rolls.

Oh it's so funny Linda! When I go to the grocery store here and buy it they have no clue what it is and mostly ask me what you do with it; they use it mostly for garnish here. People don't know how good it tastes and how good it is for you!
And Kate

If I'm in the mood, I make something very similar: I stir some wilted spinach and lightly caramelized onion in the mashed potatoes. Yummmy!

great tip Petra, kale is healthy stuff!

I'm not a huge fan of mashed potatoes but with the kale, it sounds good. I love kale. My husband's family makes this Portuguese Kale soup... it is sooo good.

I may surprise him with this.
